Are you ready to have the best job in the world?

Being a certified funeral celebrant truly is a job like no other. Reflecting someone’s whole life and character in just one ceremony, holding space for all the feelings and voices of the people who are there, listening to and retelling cherished stories… it’s a huge honour and a huge responsibility. To do this work is rewarding yet humbling; emotional yet life-affirming; hard work yet so fulfilling. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – it’s the best job in the world.

Is it time for a fresh start?

what's your why?

Maybe the pandemic has changed your work situation or made you reassess your life.

Maybe you yearn to do work that makes a difference to people’s lives.

Perhaps...

You want to go self-employed.

Maybe you’re already a wedding celebrant and you would like to offer funerals too.

Perhaps you feel ‘called’ to this work…

Have you got what it takes?

Being a funeral celebrant is something that many people say they are ‘called’ to. And it certainly does feel like that vocational sort of work. If you feel this way, that’s awesome! However, it’s important to be aware that this job also calls for practicality, tenacity and organisation as well as empathy, creativity and amazing presentation skills.

Are you ready to kick start your new funeral celebrant career?

What makes us different?

Let’s be honest here:

There are a lot of certified funeral celebrants out there and it often takes time and a tenacious mindset to get established…

…HOWEVER!

At the Celebrants Collective, we are all about honing your existing skills, qualities and experiences and giving you the knowhow to create and conduct unforgettable, personal funeral and memorial ceremonies.

We are absolutely NOT about producing ‘cookie cutter’ celebrants.

So, whilst there might be a lot of celebrants in your area, there is only one YOU!

We will not only show you how to create ceremonies, but also guide you and support you on your journey in business, including getting your first bookings and becoming a go-to celebrant in your area.

Here’s what our celebrant trainees and graduates say about us and our celebrant courses

Don't just take our word for it, our trainees and graduates are our brightest and best ambassadors and champions for all that we stand for.

Unending support, guidance and professionalism

I trained with the Celebrants Collective in 2020 and cannot speak more highly of the style of training and the content. Claire is a very special celebrant and trainer. Her wealth of experience, unique style of presentation, and engaging personality, make for an incredible experience. Having gained the accreditation, I felt fully prepared to begin my new career as a funeral celebrant.

The Celebrants Collective offers students and members unending support, guidance and CPD. The training materials are excellently written and collated and can be accessed at any time online following completion of the course. This has been vital to me as a new celebrant. I would not hesitate in recommending joining the Celebrants Collective, not just for the high quality of training, but for the support of the community. Claire is a gift to the celebrancy profession.

Friendly smiles, strong foundations and so inspiring

Having previously conducted a funeral service, I wondered how much more the funeral celebrant training would add to my knowledge.  I was not disappointed; in fact, I was amazed at how much I learnt!  As with all of The Celebrants Collective training, the lessons were clear, professional, and so inspiring.  Claire's lightness of touch made it even more enjoyable - I honestly couldn't wait to start each day.

Even with online learning, I connected with my fellow students, and we still keep in contact; to exchange ideas, provide moral support, and share our individual experiences. Claire and Natasha do all they can to help you succeed with their ongoing support and friendly smiles, always ready to answer any question you may have and never make you feel daft for asking it!  I have no hesitation in recommending this course, or any of their training - they gave me the strong foundations and confidence required to work as a funeral celebrant, providing a service that truly is a privilege.

Kind, supportive and warm

I joined the Celebrants Collective training because I loved Claire's hair! Lol! The vibrant colour and her open smile. I had looked at a few options. Some training organisations were very corporate and stiff, others are very loud and a bit intimidating. Claire and Natasha made me feel welcome and their warmth was exactly what I needed, because Covid and the pressures at work had made me go down a mental health spiral. I've got nothing but positive vibes all the way. I love the group tutorials and the exchange of experiences. The other members of the group are kind and supportive and I love listening to their ideas for the different tasks we have to complete. I have learned so much from them and the trainers. I have learned loads about poems and books which I had not considered before.

The Celebrants Collective training has helped me to become a more positive person all round. I feel confident about my future as a celebrant and I am ready for the new challenge ahead. I love the fact that I am able to create a new career for myself with a more positive outlook.

What you'll learn on our

online funeral celebrant course

Here’s a bird’s eye view of what you can expect:

1

Module 1: before we begin

Here we set out the journey you’ll be taking and help you to plan your best route. Will you choose to study intensively for three days or will spreading it out over a few weeks suit you better?

We give you an overview of the role of a certified celebrant, plus the insider’s guide to all the aspects of the job. We also invite you to assess your own skills and experience.

2

Module 2: the big picture

In this module, we look at the all-important guiding principles for all ceremony creation. We delve into what makes a ceremony unforgettable (for all the right reasons) and examine some of the cultural and historical aspects of funerals, as well as looking at inclusion and emotional health and safety.

3

Module 3: the ceremony journey

We zoom into the process of working with families in this module. From the very first contact you have with them to following up after the ceremony, this section provides an indispensable roadmap for the funeral journey. Covering meetings, communication, working with funeral directors and more, this module will take the guesswork out of what to do next.

4

Module 4: the creation process

This huge module includes everything you need to know about creating a ceremony. We cover readings, music, participation, symbolic rituals, and more. We go into detail about the writing process and we look at how to put all the elements together so that the ceremony flows beautifully.

5

Module 5: on the day

You’ve put in all that work so you really don’t want to let yourself down on the big day! This module gives you in the inside scoop on what to expect when you arrive, how to create and hold space for a ceremony, public speaking, how to present yourself, what to take with you and choreography.

6

Module 6: running your celebrant business

You can be the best celebrant in the world but if you suck at running your own business then you won’t get much work! In this section we look at systems you can set up easily to help you to run your business, plus how to get that all-important ‘foot in the door’ and to stay top of mind when people are looking for a celebrant.

7

Module 7: running your celebrant business

You’ve got your ceremony skills honed and your business systems set up. So what’s stopping you? Well quite possibly, a lack of confidence, nerves or a scarcity mindset perhaps… This module introduces you to some powerful self-coaching methods which will help you to price your services (and make other key decisions) confidently, set goals that fire you up and beat nerves.

Is it time that you trained to become a celebrant?

Bonus MODULES

And wait, our funeral celebrant training course offers you so much more...

Bonus 1: Living funerals

Living funerals are becoming more and more popular in the US and the idea is starting to spread globally. In this module, we look at how you can go about creating a beautiful farewell service for a person who wants to be there to hear it before they die.

Bonus 2: Memorials

The coronavirus pandemic has robbed many people of the funeral they would have liked for their loved ones, and memorials will spike in popularity once restrictions allow. Memorial ceremonies allow celebrations of life without the time factor of a funeral. This module looks into how to put them together in a personal and meaningful way.

And there's more...

All of these course modules and bonus modules will comprise of a combination of video, audio and PDF to suit all learning styles and to enable you to flip through the written material in bed or listen to an audio whilst driving, for example. You can come back to it for a refresher at any time too

Sample scripts
Booking form templates
Further reading/watching recommendations

Contracts and GDPR templates
Helpful gadgets and gizmos and where to buy them

Our group tutorials

Ask any of our trainees and they will likely tell you that apart from the funeral celebrant training course itself, their absolute favourite part of the celebrant training is our twice weekly group tutorials.

On Tuesday mornings (Euro time) and Wednesday evenings (almost all year round), we host one and half hour online sessions for our trainees to come together and discuss aspects of the course in further detail, whenever they can.

No session is the same. From eulogy writing, and exercises on working with families, to problem solving and working with others within the funeral industry, our sessions are varied, empowering and insightful.

In these sessions our trainees really come into their own and start to take shape as the certified funeral celebrants that they can't wait to be!

And better still, trainees can come along whenever they like with no limits on how many sessions they come to. From 2 weeks to 2 years, we're here all the way. Win-win!

Zoe says...

I do love the live group tutorials. They are good fun and there's always something for me to learn.

Sabine says...

I LOVE the tutorials. Sometimes I have listened in, even though I should have been working. Don't tell my manager! I love the group chats and the exchange of experiences. The other members of the group are kind and supportive and I love listening to their ideas for the different tasks we have to complete.

Susan says...

The group tutorials are amazing and fun. They're like a breath of fresh air. After the tutorials you feel so motivated and I do feel my confidence has grown since the beginning of the course.

About Your Course Teacher,

Claire Bradford (She/her)

As co-director and head of training at the Celebrants Collective, Claire has created both of our signature wedding and funeral courses.

Using her years of experience working as a sought-after funeral celebrant with bereaved families and funeral directors and arrangers alike, Claire has poured her passion, wisdom, knowledge, expertise and professionalism into the Celebrants Collective funeral celebrant course.

From leading funeral services for babies, to centenarian war veterans and creating ceremony for people who have died by suicide and other tragic circumstances, Claire shares her knowledge and varied experiences during the training.

Along with our hugely experienced funeral celebrant and course tutor Rosalie Kuyvenhoven, they bring their knowledge and personal experiences together during our group tutorials to help our trainees learn the subtleties and complexities of the bereavement landscape.

Away from the celebrant world, Claire lives with her husband and two gorgeous daughters by the sea in Worthing, UK.

About Your Course Tutor, Rosalie Kuyvenhoven (She/her)

Since she was young Rosalie dreamt of designing and conducting ceremonies for people who did not want to follow the convention. It took her careers in Theology (where she learnt a thing or two about rituals) and Change Management Consultancy (where she helped organisations realise their dreams) before she discovered her ideal job.

Fast forward five years and Rosalie is an award-winning wedding and funeral celebrant, speaker, co-founder of ‘Grief Training for Professionals’ and Death Cafe host to a global audience.

Warm, compassionate and creative, Rosalie loves finding unique and meaningful ways to celebrate love and life, including ceremonies at unusual locations. A wedding in a cinema? A funeral in a theatre? She’s done it!

Rosalie also is experienced in online ceremonies and has a special interest in dementia-friendly funerals and baby and child funerals.

Rosalie is course tutor for both our wedding and funeral training courses. She has a passion for learning and mentoring and was delighted when we approached her to become part of the CC team!

In her free time she loves watching art house movies with her husband, climbing trees with her children and drinking cocktails with friends.

Here's some more thoughts from our happy trainees and graduates

Therese Coyne

Current Wedding Celebrant Trainee

The best thing I did was to join this training group! Finding the right tribe makes the celebrant journey so much more rewarding and the mantra about being yourself is practiced here not just preached. The group is really, really diverse and you will learn so much more than the course curriculum :)

Timna Fibert

Certified Wedding Celebrant

I loved the hybrid nature of the course - I could complete the course in my own time, taking notes and going back to bits that I wanted to revisit, so I had all the benefits of the online aspect, but then we also had our group tutorials, and access to a friendly face and the wonderful tutorials whenever we needed them. Really fantastic.

Susan Eyles

There's just so much information given and the course is laid out in a really easy format to follow. Natasha and Claire make the group tutorials so interesting and are on hand for any questions throughout the course. What is not to love about two supportive empowering women in Natasha and Claire who deliver this course?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the funeral course format?

Having trained student celebrants and celebrants for a number of years now, we learnt very quickly that everyone learns in different ways. So we have developed our online course to allow for this.

Once you’re all signed up you will get access to your student account where the online course is housed. From here, you will be able to engage with the course, step by step, studying via the course videos and ebooks which accompany the different modules. There will also be tasks and quizzes to complete along the way to help you to embed everything you've learned.

In addition to your personal study, every week there will be live online video tutorials led by us, to help you further your studies and meet other trainees. This is where you can come along to ask questions, share your doubts, highlight any concerns - whatever you want to share or ask to help with your studies. We encourage you to attend as many tutorials as you can. There will be a minimum number of these that we will ask you to attend before we certify you as a celebrant, as it's important for us to have interaction with you (both for your learning and for us to be able to assess your needs).

Also, within the online course platform itself, you’ll be able to post any questions or comments that you have too. Support will always be on hand for you.

How long will it take to complete?

It will probably be possible to get through all the online course material in 3 full days, but you will also be able to take it at a pace that suits your needs and spread out your learning over weeks or even months if you’d like to. We do encourage you to take your time and not to rush it!

What happens once the funeral training course is finished?

Once you have finished the online funeral training course in its entirety, and have satisfactorily and successfully completed the required tasks, tests and assignments, as well as having attended our group tutorials, we will sign you off as a Celebrants Collective Certified Funeral Celebrant. But even though you’ll technically be finished with this side of your training, you’ll still have lifetime access to the online course, which includes all updates and improvements, so you will always have the most current information at your fingertips.

You will then graduate to the Celebrants Collective Members HQ where you’ll continue your celebrant development with us as a certified celebrant and we’ll guide and mentor you as you set yourself up as a celebrant and open for business! Yay!

As a Celebrants Collective Certified Celebrant you will also be expected to continue with us as a member in order to validate your accreditation with us. Your first year’s membership is included in the course price. You can read more about our members HQ here.

When do I pay for the course?

We want to give our trainees the flexibility to pay as easily and comfortably as possible. That's why you can pay with a one-off payment of the whole course price or over three monthly instalments. Once you sign up and pay, you'll have full access to the course whether you pay in instalments or via the one-off payment.

How can I sign up for both your wedding and funeral training?

Just follow this link to our payment page, and you'll be able to purchase both courses at the same time and at a specially reduced price too! Win-win!

Where are your trainees from?

Our current trainees are from all over the world. We've trained fabulous people in the USA, France, Spain and the UK. Our training teaches you the art of creating ceremony, as well as empowers you to run you own successful celebrant business, wherever you are in the world. We encourage our trainees to check to see if they have to satisfy any further requirements within their own countries to continue their work as a celebrant.

What if I want to cancel the course, once I've started?

We would of course be absolutely gutted to hear this, but we'd get in touch with you to find out your reasons for cancelling and help to get the best possible outcome for you.

Will you have in-person training and events?

Yes! In person training courses will start in June 2024 and make sure you're on our mailing list for news about our other in-person and online events!

Have you more questions? No problem! Join our training support FB group and connect with us directly.

You probably have one hundred and one questions. We get it! It's only natural.
